A guide to Halal Food Selection Minimize

"And eat of the things which Allah has provided for you, lawful and good; but fear Allah in whom alone you believe." (Quran, AI-Maidah:88)

Prophet Muhammad SAW is reported to have said: "Halal (Lawful) is clear and Haram (Prohibited) is clear; between these two are doubtful matters concerning which people do not know whether they are Halal or haram. One who avoids them, in order to safeguard his religion and his honour, is safe. Anyone who gets involve in any of these doubtful items, he may fall into the haram. This case is similar to the one who wishes to raise his animals next to a restricted area, he may step into it. Indeed for every landlord there is a restricted area. Indeed the restrictions of Allah are the haram." (Sahih alBukhari & Muslim)

Halal is a Quranic term which means 'Allowed' or 'Lawful'. Halal foods and drinks whose consumption is permitted by Allah S.W.T - the Supreme Law Giver. Eating Halal is obligatory on every Muslim.

Haram is a Quranic term which means 'Prohibited' or 'Unlawful'. Haram foods and drinks are absolutely prohibited by Allah swt - the Supreme Law Giver. Eating Haram is forbidden for every Muslim.

SHUBHAH (Mashbooh) is an Arabic term which means 'Suspected'. If one does not know the Halal or Haram status of a particular food or drink, such a food or drink is doubtful. A practicing Muslim prevents himself from consuming doubtful things.
